McIntyre's Competitive Malthael Build - Sucking through a Slurpy Straw
Malthael is a great lane bully but suffers from slow wave clearing. This is made up with his ability to duel effectively and sustain himself in lane at all times. He also has tools to help him survives ganks and an insane engage ability at 10 with Tormented Souls. Be careful when engaging not to overextend into the enemy team as you can find yourself too far from your team to help you out of danger. It's also very effective as a tool to counter engage when the enemy team dives into you and your backline. As of now Malthael is one of the few melee assassins that sees play in competitive play because of his effective kit and use against high health heroes
1
On a Pale Horse
Gain an additional 20% Movement Speed while mounted.
Pale Horse is great for ganks and also allows you to sometimes walk right up to a target and hit them applying your passive allowing you to use your e later.
Tech Talent: Fear the Reaper can be very powerful in lane to not only chase people down but to kite away. I like taking it vs heroes that do not have cc and rely on chase (illidan)

Black Harvest
Quest: Apply Reaper's Mark to Heroes for a total of 180 seconds.
Reward: Permanently increase Reaper's Mark's duration by 2 seconds.
Black Harvest is insanely powerful in the late game when paired with my 16 talent choice as it allows you to drain multiple enemies multiple times damage and sustaining yourself the entire time. Usually achieved around 11-14 minutes ingame
Tech Talent: Die Alone can be taken to crush your solo lane in order for you to win an objective (dragon shire/braxis)

Cold Hand
Soul Rip Slows enemies by 20% for 2.5 seconds.
Cold Hand to me is the more powerful of the two in most cases as it allows you to kite the enemy team once you apply your mark to them, also allowing your team to chase after because of the CC. Kinda like murky slime :)
Tech Talent: Touch of Death can be powerful against burst healers like Rehgar or to counter healing from heroes like Leoric or Dehaka

10
Tormented Souls
Unleash a torrent of souls, continually applying Reaper's Mark to nearby enemies for 4 seconds. When Tormented Souls is cast and when it expires, reset the cooldown of Wraith Strike.
Bread and butter ult, applying your mark to everyone in your AoE and giving you armor to tank the other team that is not trying to deal with you. Massive heals, slows, and damage if you connect on everyone.
Tech Talent: I've seen last rites and have tried it if the other team is heavy kite and you only want to get a pick but I think it weakens the hero significantly

13
Inevitable End
Activate to become Unstoppable for 2 seconds, but remove all active Reaper's Marks.
This entire tier is a tech talent, just pick accordingly I would say the spell armor is the worst but can be powerful vs jaina burst allowing you to tank all her damage early. All talents are powerful Inevitable End is probably the most consistent with your level 10 as you can pair them well together
16
Soul Collector
Reduce Soul Rip's cooldown by 0.5 seconds and increase its range by 25%.
I was in love with Memento Mori in the beginning but I believe the CDR on this talent paired with your level 4 is so powerful to keep you sustained and keep the other team slowed that I can't not take it anymore. It is also insanely strong with with Die Alone to solo kill heroes in the late game.
20
No One Can Stop Death
Activate while dead to immediately respawn at the Hall of Storms but increase Malthael's next respawn time by 25%.
Typically always going No One Can Stop Death but you can hold off on this 20 and wait to see if Reaper or Final Curtain can be stronger. I've tried Final Curtain on maps like Infernal and BoE and have had decent success. Resurgence of the Storm too OP though
